Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering Courses:

Introduction to Engineering Design

This course teaches problem-solving skills using a design development process. Models of product solutions are created, analyzed and communicated using solid modeling computer design software.

This class is intended to be taken in the freshman year and is available at the following schools:

Bloomington North
Bloomington South
Edgewood
Hoosier Hills Career Center

Principles of Engineering

A course that helps students understand the field of engineering/engineering technology. Exploring various technology systems and manufacturing processes help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people. The course also includes concerns about social and political consequences of technological change.

This class is intended to be taken in the sophomore year and is available at the following schools:

Bloomington North
Bloomington South
Edgewood
Hoosier Hills Career Center

Civil Engineering and Architecture

Civil Engineering and Architecture introduces students to the fundamental design and development aspects of civil engineering and architectural planning activities. Application and design principles will be used in conjunction with mathematical and scientific knowledge. Computer software programs should allow students opportunities to design, simulate, and evaluate the construction of buildings and communities. During the planning and design phases, instructional emphasis should be placed on related transportation, water resource, and environmental issues. Activities should include the preparation of cost estimates as well as a review of regulatory procedures that would affect the project design. NOTE: This course aligns with the PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture curriculum.

This class is intended to be taken in the junior or senior year and is available at the following schools:

Bloomington North
Bloomington South
Edgewood
Hoosier Hills Career Center

Engineering Design and Development

Engineering Design and Development is an engineering research course in which students work in teams to research, design, test, and construct a solution to an openended engineering problem. The product development life cycle and a design process are used to guide the team to reach a solution to the problem. The team and/or individual(s)communicates their solution to a panel of stakeholders at the conclusion of the course. As the capstone course in the Engineering Pathway, EDD engages students in critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and teamwork skills.

This class is intended to be taken in the junior or senior year and is available at the following schools:

Bloomington North
Bloomington South
Edgewood
Hoosier Hills Career Center
